White shirts and Youtubers. | OOTD ft. Effie

Today was the first day I've worn a white shirt, in what feels like forever, but it’s only been a mere 8 months since I left high school, where a white button down shirt was an everyday occurrence as part of our uniform. And, I feel as if this very “thrilling” and sentimental moment needs to documented on the internet.

Effie joins me for a

‘thoughtful stare of out the window’

pose and a cup of tea after college.

Recently, I've been attempting to break out of the habit being dressed head-to-toe in black on a daily basis, the ‘I’m in the perfect outfit for a funeral’ look is beginning to lose it’s novelty.
Whilst looking for more “colourful” outfit inspiration in video form on YouTube, I found a video by one of my favourite YouTubers, Jenn Im (youtube hanger: clothesencounters). I adore her videos for how short yet effective and to the point
they are. Jenn herself has her own style and isn't shy of mixing colours and/or textures and reinterpreting current trends. (I also can’t think of anyone else’s wardrobe I envy more than I envy hers.) The video that inspired my outfit for today is simply based around styling a white top (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVu5lzYzJmo&list=UUgWfS_47YPVbKx5EK4FLm4A) she takes five white tops and creates totally different looks and different feels with each outfit. This inspired me to find my own white to serve as a base to some many looks I wanted to create.

Whilst cleaning out my room and sorting through all my clothes over the weekend, I rediscovered this piece. Its four sizes too big and I picked it up in a sale in Marks and Spencers years ago, it been discarded two summers ago and shoved into a bin bag in the loft, but I decided this time to keep it on my rail and see what else I could wear with it.

Today it was paired with a black mini skirt from H&M, that I seem to be wearing all the time recently, it’s layered in the front and is one of the most comfortable and flattery skirts I've ever owned. I put some semi-sheer tights underneath (because, unfortunately it is very much still winter). And on my feet I wore what I like to call my ‘stomper’ boots.

I “accessorised” (a rare occasion) with a few silver band rings from H&M, which unfortunately only fit on my thumbs and index fingers, I really like simplicity and finishes on these rings, one’s matte and another has a imprinted texture.

It's the little details that count, the silver ones to be exact.

And finally chucked my new ‘staple’ black over sized double breasted coat on over the top — I like the look more with the coat, to me it makes the shirt more masculine and ‘boyfriend fit’ like but it’s still kept feminine with the little black skirt and my almost bare legs — and I loved the look of the shirt sleeves just being slightly longer than the coat sleeves at the bottom.
So, I think the white shirt — that had probably not been designed with a 17 year old girl in mind, is a keeper.
It’s soft and comfortable, the material is substantial, the collar sits well and it hangs lovely. It’s the right length, serving a fair amount of ‘coverage’ if ever decide to throw it on with leggings.
I think I have (finally) found a piece to serve in my wardrobe for years to come.
